Dusty Griffith -
Southern encaustic artist Dusty Griffith creates softly luminous paintings using pale blues, greens, golds and whites to inspire contemplation, peacefulness, and spirituality within the viewer. “My motive is for the viewer to realize the principle that there is more than just what can be seen on the surface, both in my art and in one’s life,” Griffith explains.
To more fully express these philosophical ideals, Griffith strives for a purer strain of abstraction by distilling the picture plane into sophisticated combinations of color and form. Indeed, Griffith’s artistic vision is likened to the geometric abstraction of the late California painter Richard Diebenkorn, beautifully combined with principles of color field painting as seen in the meditative work of Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko. “Geometric abstraction functions as a solution to problems concerning the need for contemporary painting to reject the illusionistic practices of the past while addressing the inherently two-dimensional nature of the picture plane,” comments Bill Lowe. In each breathtaking composition, Dusty Griffith imbues the work with calming, meditative, and atmospheric qualities.
By using salvaged pieces of wood (such as a portion of a front door taken from a demolished home) as the base for each painting, Dusty Griffith infuses new life into the materials, and simultaneously expresses his philosophy of rebirth and new consciousness within one’s present life...

Bill Lowe Gallery -
Bill Lowe Gallery will host the grand opening of its new Two Peachtree Pointe gallery,
which gallery owner
Bill Lowe describes
as “part-museum,
part-temple, and
part-music video,” on September 12, 2008. The gallery’s inaugural exhibition will christen its much touted new space with featured solo exhibitions by
two of North
America’s most
prominent young
painters – Jimmy O‘Neal and Dusty Griffith. The opening exhibition will also include a special viewing of select works by the late Sam Glankoff.
The grand opening and exhibition reception takes place Friday, September 12th from 6-9pm.
The new Bill Lowe Gallery is located in Atlanta’s recently minted “Uptown” district. Standing at the gateway with Buckhead to the North and Midtown to the South, this unique location is positioned at Peachtree St., Spring St., and West Peachtree. Atlanta’s high Southern culture and history intersect here with its foremost institutions of media, commerce, finance, education, and the arts, including The High Museum, Woodruff Arts Centre, Ansley Park, Savannah College of Design, The Temple, Peachtree Christian Church, WSB-TV and Invesco.
Designed by the internationally renowned architecture firm Gensler & Associates, the new multilevel facility is defined by its architecturally-provocative interiors. The gallery features soaring 22 foot ceilings, a grand salon with a wrap-around mezzanine, a cat-walk bridge, connecting promenade salons, and a number of smaller, more intimate galleries. The design of the space encourages guests to explore its interiors, and ultimately, engage its art.
